*Please note: LOST Theatre cannot return scripts. Also, we require the actual script that you are proposing - another example of your work will not suffice. Attached is a set of One Act Festival rules. We recommend that you read these thoroughly before entering.
Entry considerations
As well as keeping within the 20-45 minute time slot, we ask that you consider the following:
As technical and get-in/out time is limited it is advisable not to be reliant on elaborate staging, sets or effects. There is a limited amount of storage space available at the New End Theatre, and please remember this has to be shared with 2 other shows No costumes or props can be stored at the venue before or after your performance day. So if you can't carry it to and from the venue it is not advisable to use it. If there is a chance that the running time could exceed 45 minutes, please cut the script down. Shows that are over-running at dress rehearsal will be withdrawn from the Festival.Adjudication
This year we are pleased to announce that our Adjudicator once again be Mr Jeremy Kingston (one of The Times’ drama critics). He will attend all shows and provide constructive comment and criticism at the end of every evening. From the Festival he will select three shows that he feels best represent the following categories:
Best New Writing, Best Direction & Best Overall Production
These shows will be presented with their bespoke prizes at a Festival Winners Reception.
Tickets
Tickets are sold for each evening of the Festival - they are not sold for individual shows within an evening. Out of respect to your fellow participants, we expect audience members to watch all shows on your performance day. New audience members will not be admitted once the evening has started. Please do not ask any one attending your performance to arrive purely for your show as they will not be admitted.
Each company will be allocated 2 complimentary tickets for their show's performance (box office permitting they will be allowed to watch the other shows - otherwise they will be asked to leave the auditorium after their company's performance). LOST Theatre will not be providing complimentary tickets for industry professionals. It is the responsibility of the individual company to purchase tickets for anyone they wish to invite.
All cast and crew will be asked back into the auditorium for that evening’s adjudication.
FAQ's
Does the play have to be new writing?
No, we like to have a mix of both new writing and existing published plays. So if there is a well-known One Act play that you would like to try Directing, that is fine.
Does it have to be just one scene?
No, but we don’t want lengthy scene changes and we don’t allow intervals.
Can my submission be another performance genre such as musical theatre, physical theatre or devised theatre?
Yes, we accept entries from all performance genres. However we MUST see a copy of the script that will be performed before the deadline.
I am not resident in the UK but I have a script – can I still enter?
Yes by all means send us your script if you are not a UK resident. However please bear in mind that LOST will not be responsible for arranging rehearsal venues, casting, travel arrangements etc.
What happens if I’m offered a slot on the reserve list?
Not every show that applies to enter the Festival finds that if selected, it is able to take up the offer of a slot. Therefore the Festival’s Artistic panel select a number of shows that they feel meet their criteria and ask if they would be happy to be placed on our reserve list. Should any of the 30 shows decide not to take up our offer of a slot in the Festival, a company from the reserve list will be asked if they would like to take their place. The companies on the reserve list will be notified as to whether or not they have been offered a slot by Monday 3rd March.
